Congratulations to all of our two Cubs and two Scouts who were presented with the Chief Scout Award for cubs by our County Commissioner Ursula yesterday evening. Congratulations also to the four scouts who were presented with the CSA Cubs badges that the were owed from a few years ago
We also invested Bob Halvey as a new Scouter into the group this evening as well as 2 cubs and 1 scout. All the cubs were presented with their adventure skills and special interest badges. We presented both the cub of the month and six of the month.
A big thank you to all the parents who showed up for this important presentation evening. Thank also to our two special guests County Commissioner Ursula Cosgrove and National Program Commissioner Eilís Webster for joining us.

We will once again be taking part in the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Limerick on March 17th. This year in particular, we are asking for as many members of the Group as possible to join us on the day so we can show the community that we are still going strong.
We will be group 43 in the parade. We would ask all parents to meet us promptly after the parade at City Hall at Merchant’s Quay so that our Scouters are not left waiting.

On Monday 11th of March, your child will be undertaking an assessment in Hillwalking stage 1 and Emergencies stage 1. On successful completion of the assessment, the beaver will be then be entitled to Hillwalking badge 1 and Emergencies badge 1.
We have included the following documentation below so that you can help your child prepare for these assessments. A little bit each night would help ensure that they are ready this and help them progress to the next stage of their journey within Scouting.
Well done to the 8 Beavers who took part in the County Orienteering Day along the Attychraan Loop in Galtee Castle Wood, Kilbeheny, Co. Limerick. Along the way the Beavers got to practice their map reading skills and found several orienteering flags along the route

Our Scout Camp this year will take place in Fota Island in June on Wednesday 26th to Sunday 30th June. Due to the World Scout Jamboree taking up a considerable amount of the summer for some of the Scouts and Scouters, we will be linking up with the Cubs for this camp. The cost will be €160 for camp fees, activities, food AND transport to/from the camp via train
As we’re aware some of the Scouts may still have School until the Friday, there is an option for Friday to Sunday for €120. Scouts chosing this option would travel with the cubs to the camp
On the Sunday of the camp, we will be announcing the winners of the Inter Patrol Challenge for 2018/2019 and presenting the Terra Nova and Endurance award to scouts that have earned them
As we need to send off a deposit, can you let Barry know by the end of this week if your son will be going on the camp and which option (5 days or 3 days) they wish to go on
This Sunday, our Beavers will be taking part in a County Hike on the Attychraan Loop in Galtee Castle Wood, Kilbeheny, Co. Limerick
We’ll meet at the Scout Hall at 9am and then travel in convoy to Kilbeheny. Beavers should have a substantial breakfast beforehand. The event is due to finish at 2pm

On Saturday, Mike, Barry, Ger, Eoghan and Jack attended the Southern Province’s Conference in the Charleville Park Hotel. In the morning they attended workshops on Governance, Programme Resources & Events, Youth Development, Safeguarding and Technology in Scouting. The afternoon featured a Q&A session with members of the Scouting Ireland board.
Survivor is the toughest and most challenging activity on the Scout calendar. Teams of 4 will be put through their paces as part of a scenario devised by the Survivor Team. Scouts will need to deal with scenarios, complete tasks and overcome any challenges they are faced with, all this with only limited resources.

Situation
Following years of extreme weather conditions, civilisation has been reduced to the population living in groups, or Factions. These factions obtain food and equipment through a series of challenges that are decided by the Directorate. Patrols will have to decide which Faction they wish to belong to – WARNING, choose carefully, as the level of the challenges will be based upon the faction you choose. If you excel, you may be moved to the next higher faction – if you don’t, you may be moved to the next lower faction – in some cases, it’s possible that a patrol would wander the wastelands and become factionless.

Preparation & Skills
As this is our first time attending Survivor we will be entering teams into the Delta faction. This means they will get some extra food/equipment and some instruction over the weekend to help them reach the higher levels in future. Scouts should aim to reach Backwoods stage 3 (or higher) prior to the event
Cost & Booking Information
The cost is €40 per Scout. This fee will include camping fees, programme and food for the weekend. Scouts must inform Barry that they wish to attend by Thursday 28th February. The full balance must be paid on or before Thursday 7th March in order to attend
Last night we held our annual Scouters dinner in the Absolute Hotel Limerick. We took the opportunity to make a presentation to our four outgoing officers Des McKeown, Catherine Clancy, Tom Synott and Brigid Laffen for their service to the group
