Cratloe hike – Leaders & Beavers met @ Meelick Gate entrance @ 1.30pm on Saturday, 21st November 2015. We begun our 4km hike @ 1.50pm and reached Cratloe Playground just before 4.00pm. The weather was very wet for the first 15 minutes or so though it settled down thereafter and was fine for the majority of the hike. We kept to the main road for 2.5km then diverted through woods emerging a little above the lake area off the Playground.
Sleepover details – Parents dropped the Beavers off @ the Scout Hall for 5.15pm. We marched them to Showtime cinema for a special viewing of ‘Pan’ @ 5.45pm. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the film [well the Beavers did as I believe one or two Leaders took 40 winks …]. We then visited Supermacs afterwards for refreshment before marching the Beavers back to the Scout Hall @ 9.15.
Scout Hall activities – Back @ the Scout Hall the Beavers arranged their sleeping bags in the Beaver/Cub room. The Beavers played some games including draughts, chase, ship-to-shore and cards. A movie, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was put on however tiredness overcame the last few standing so we stopped showing the film @ 11.45pm. It was then lights out accompanied by some shenanigans involving flashlights and talking. Eventually circa 12.45am quietness descended and everyone slept soundly until morning.
On behalf of all the leaders I would like to compliment the boys on their excellent behaviour during the hike and on Saturday evening for the movie, Supermacs and the actual sleepover. On a personal level I would like to thank Catherine, Mike, Barry, Des & Stephen for their tremendous support during the event and for kindly giving their time to help organise and run the hike & sleepover.
