This weekend, 6 scouts and 2 scouters took part in the County Overnight Expedition in the Galtey Mountains. We had two teams – a senior team (Mark and Fursa with Neil) and a Junior Team (Daniel, Cillian, John and Jordan with Barry). We met at the Clydagh Bridge campsite at 2pm where we divided up the team gear and set off towards the campsite. The Scouts reached basecamp in no time and quickly put up our tents, cooked our dinner and got to know the other scouts from around the county.
After a cold night, we awoke to get ready for the main hike. Leaving our camping gear at base we set off up the hill towards Lough Curragh. The sun came out as we reached the “pimple” (a small hill at 350m) and then we followed a trail around to reach the lake. After a quick stop we headed down and collected our gear and set off again for the campsite.
Well done to the Scouts on their achievement this weekend. Thanks to leaders Barry and Neil for bringing them. Thanks also to Dave Ryan (ACPC-Scouts) and Ger Nevile (CPC) and their team for organizing the event
