County Scout Camp

Six very tired scouts just back from the first ever County Scout Camp in Castleconnell. 96 scouts from Caherdavin, Milford/Monaleen, Meelick, Castleconnell, Murroe, Bruff, Croom, Ahane, Rathkeale and St Joseph’s took part in the overnight event.

Activities on the Saturday included ice breaker games, an obstacle course, blind trail, monkey bridge, catapult building, woggle making, leather craft, badge design (with the winning badge to be produced and sent out to all scouts who attended) and a campfire. Scouts completed these activities in mixed patrols made up of scouts from several groups allowing them to get to make new friends. Despite the miserable weather on Sunday morning scouts took part in a photo treasure hunt in the village and various scouting tasks onsite such as learning to how to fix a puncture, making a compass and assembling a trangia while blindfolded. Well done to the Scouts for their behaviour and cooperation. Thanks to Scouter Barry Kennedy for bringing the scouts to the event and to Dave Ryan (Ast. County Programme Coordinator for Scouts) and his team for organizing the event.

County Scout Camp – updated information

Here is the update on the county camp

  • All Scouts to arrange their own transport to the Castleconnel Campsite.
  • Scouts must be on site for 9.30 on Saturday
  • Scouts must be collected at 3pm on Sunday
  • Scouts are asked to bring the gear listed below
  • Scouts must bring a packed lunch for Saturday
  • Only Patrol Leaders may bring mobile phones

Clonmacken Climbing Wall Sleepover Details

The Following are the details for our trip to the climbing wall/Sleepover this com1ng weekend.

  1. The Scout Hall will be opened on Saturday evening from 6pm to 6.15pm for lads who wish to drop their sleeping gear to the hall before going to climbing
  2. Parents must drop the boys to Presentation School Sexton Street Car park no later than 6-45pm
  3. Boys must be picked up again at 9pm and dropped to Scout hall
  4. Loose clothing is a must for climbing wall
  5. Neckerchief must be worn
  6. Boys should be picked up on Sunday morning no later than 10-30am
  7. Sleeping Bag/Ground Mat needed
  8. Pillow (Optional)
  9. Evening Tea and Breakfast will be provided

Registration 2012

Dear Parents

We welcome our Scouts back for another year of activity and fun. Fees for the coming year remain at €160.00. This figure includes National Registration and Insurance for the year. All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures & Rovers have to be registered with Scouting Ireland and be covered by Scouting Ireland Insurance. We are holding a Registration Night on Thursday 27th September for parents to complete the necessary Parental Consent forms and to pay the first installment of €80.00. If you are paying by cheque please make it payable to “Scouting Ireland – Caherdavin Scouts”.

Scout Leaders are volunteers and give their time freely to organise weekly meetings and all the activities that your son takes part in. Please play your part by coming to
the registration night so that Leaders do not have to spend time chasing the lads for forms etc. We understand that this could place a strain on parents in this tough economic climate so if you need to speak to us about payment please contact Des  or your sons Section Leader.

Clonmacken Cubs Climbing Wall/Sleepover

The cub Pack will be holding this event on Saturday September 22nd into Sunday September 23rd.The first part of this event will take place at Presentation Hall Sexton Street from 7pm to 9pm on the Saturday.Here the boys will get a chance under properly trained supervision to use their climbing wall.

The second part will see us return to the Scout Hall for a Sleepover

The cost of this event is €10 and must be paid at next Tuesday nights meeting September 18th as the event takes place on that weekend.

Please put it in an envelope with your childs name on it

Clonmacken cub pack returns tonight TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11th.

New members are welcome to come along and put their name down on a waiting list.

Rescue Emergency Care course held in Caherdavin

17  Scouters, Rover Scouts and Venture Scouts from Limerick, Cork and Galway recently took part in a Rescue Emergency Care (REC) Stage 3 outdoor first aid course in the Caherdavin Scout Hall. REC3 is first aid for situations based in the outdoors, where help may not be immediately available. REC is also the basis for Scouting Ireland’s Emergencies Adventure Skills programme with REC3 covering the requirements for stages 1 to 5 as well as aspects of stages 6 and 7. Seven members of our group took part in the course – Mark, Neil, Mike, Aaron, Barry and Sean. Thanks to our brilliant trainers David Batt and Paula Deegan from the 171st Dublin (Rivervalley). Thanks also to Barry who organized the course and to Mary Kennedy who made the scones and buns for our coffee break.
