County Scout Hike

Updated 19th Oct- Weather forecast looks like it will be wet so RAIN GEAR IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!! 

The County Scout Hike will take place next Saturday, 22nd October in Torc Moutain near Killarney, Co. Kerry. Cost is €5 (this must be paid on Wednesday 19th). The registration fees and paperwork must be returned before this event.

We’ll be meeting at the Car Park of the Muckross Estate at 10.30am and expect to return to same by 4pm. Scouts must arrange their own transport to and from the event.

The following gear will be required for the hike:
• Neckerchief*
• Hiking boots*
• Rain Gear* (jacket & trousers)
• Hat & Gloves*
• Change of Clothes
• Packed lunch*
• Torch
• Compass
• Bivy Bag
(*) indicates compulsory item. We recommend Radar Stores on foxes bow for sourcing the above gear. Mention it’s for a scout event.

Update: Have a read of this handbook. Its written with a weekend hike in mind but some of the advice is good. Pay attention what to bring (and what not to bring) and how to pack it.
