Tomorrow one of our Scouters Barry Kennedy will be joining 38,000 scouts from around the world (including 800 irish scouts) for the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. Barry will be part of the International Service Team (IST), the staff who will be running the jamboree.
A Jamboree is a special event that only happens once every four years and draws Scouts from all corners of the globe for two weeks of a Scouting festival. We’ve had scouts previously attend Jamboree’s in Korea (1991), Holland (1995) and Chile (1999).
This weekend the scouts had their annual camp in Portlick in Westmeath. Only 5 scouts attended up but what they lacked in numbers they made up for with enthusiasm. Over the weekend they got to try Archery, Extreme Crate Stacking, Kayaking on Lough Rhea, Orienteering, a Zip Line and a game of man hunt with the Arklow Sea Scouts.A great weekend was had by all.
Thanks to the leaders Barry, Aaron and David for organising the camp, to cub leader Mike O’Halloran who came to help, to John and the crew at Portlick and to Brian Carrol and Dave O’Brien for sorting out transport.
