“thanks for a great weekend”

The above quote was from one of the Scouts after returning home from the Troop’s annual camp in Fanore at the weekend. 8 scouts, 4 scouters and 1 bear (Paddy the Venture Mascot) had a great weekend that included hiking, fishing, swimming, caving and rock climbing. All 8 scouts came back tired but smiling. The Scouters whould like to thank the Scouts for being so well behavied over the weekend and to Beaver Leaders/Parents Ger Quigley and Ger Cavanagh for helping with transport the weekend.

Going primitive

Three scouters (Barry, David & Aaron) travelled to Portlick Scout Campsite in Westmeath for the Most Primitive Scout Experience (MPSE) Basics training day. MPSE is an International Scouting group which specialises in bushcraft, survival or backwoods skills. MPSE was founded in Holland. In 2008, the Dutch MPSE team came to Ireland for the Jamboree and the MPSE Ireland Fellowship was founded as a result.

As part of the the day, the lads learned about wood carving, making hamocks, making string from nettles, cooking using a cardboard box, lighting fire by flint and how to sharpen a knife. The next MPSE basic day will be in Killcully, Cork in November.

Beavers end of year party

The beavers had their end of year party today. Only 11 beavers came along but those who did made up for lack of numbers with their enthuasim. The beavers got to try Go Karting with the lads from formula fun. We also had a bouncing castle, some games and a Piñata. All beavers went home with a cert and their first year award badge. The Beavers will return to action in September.
