The Annual General Meeting of the 23rd Limerick Scout Group will take place this Thursday 10th November at 8pm in the Scout Hall. All sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers) and the officers will give their annual reports. One parent per child is asked to attend this meeting. Its a great opportunity to meet the scouters and to find out what each section has been up to in the past year.

Beavers Helping Others
There will be no Beaver Meeting next week due to the Bank Holiday. Instead the Beavers have been given a project as part of the ONE Programme. The project is based on “Helping Others”
Plan- talk about how you can help others
Do – Keep a Helping others diary
Review- Discus how you helped others- how did you do it? Was it fun?
Group Registration night
Thanks to everyone who showed up to our registration night last night. It was decided this year that we would collect the registration fee and sort out consent forms on one night. This really makes it easier for the group to sort out our registration to Scouting Ireland on time. Thanks to all the Scouters for their hard work getting ready for last night. Thanks also to the scouts and ventures who had a stall about their upcoming international adventures.
If you didn’t attend last night, you need to come up at the start of next week’s meetings to pay the registration fee and fill out the membership/consent forms. The forms can be downloaded in our Resources section. A further €30 must be paid by the end of October and the final €80 must be paid for by the end of February.
Two important dates for your diary:
- Group AGM – Thursday 10th November @ 8pm. Scout Hall
- Table Quiz - Thursday 17th November @ 8pm. Na Parsaigh GAA Club
Beavers invested
Last Monday six beavers (Jamie, Emre, John, Fionn, Rory and Ben) made their Scout Promise and were invested into the Beavers. Well done to all the lads
Beaver Investiture
The Beavers are currently preparing for this year’s investiture ceremony which will take place on Monday February 28th.
This year we have 8 beavers who will make their promise and take their first step along the Scouting Trail.
The investiture will take place during the Beaver Meeting (from 7pm to 8.30pm) and will be followed by a quick parents meeting to discuss our activities for the next few weeks/months. Families are welcome to attend the ceremony. All Beavers to wear full uniform on the night.
Beavers go abseiling
The beavers held their first meeting back last night and were joined by the Ventures and Rovers who kindly set up an abseiling rig in the hall. The beavers really enjoyed this. The beavers also put a tent (a vango alpha) on their own and were shown what a bivy bag is.

Beavers are back!
The Beavers will be resuming meetings this Monday with an abseiling session run by the Ventures and Rovers- starting as we mean to go on. Last term our activities included the County Beaver Halloween Day in Pallaskenry (Oct), a trip to Delta Adventure City (Nov) and our Christmas Party (Dec). We’ve got lots planned for this term (watch this space) include the introduction of Scouting Ireland’s One Programme.
Beaver News October 2010
(Note to be given out next Monday 11th October)
The registration fee for the 2010/2011 Scouting year is €160. This is paid in two installments of €80 (one per term). There is a discount for families with more than one child. The first installment must be paid by the end of October. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to talk to the leaders.
All beavers are asked to bring the following to next week’s meeting
• A small backpack (something a beaver can carry comfortably)
• Warm hat and gloves
• Rain Gear (top and bottoms)
• Plastic Lunch Box (This can be empty for the meeting)
During the meeting Beavers will be shown how to properly pack their bag for a day activity. All items should be clearly labeled with the beaver’s name.

Beavers end of year party
The beavers had their end of year party today. Only 11 beavers came along but those who did made up for lack of numbers with their enthuasim. The beavers got to try Go Karting with the lads from formula fun. We also had a bouncing castle, some games and a Piñata. All beavers went home with a cert and their first year award badge. The Beavers will return to action in September.

Beavers go hiking
Instead of their weekly meeting this week, the Beavers went to Cratloe Woods for a hike. They got to learn about tracking signs, how to walk in a group, what to bring on a hike, how to put a tent and how to cross a stream. They also got to roast marshmallows over a barbeque. Photos to come.
